The city of Abu Dhabi is the capital of its beautiful emirate, one of the seven United Arab Emirates. Located on the coast of the Persian Gulf, the middle eastern city was, for most of its history, a small port for pearl fishermen. History changed the destiny of the whole region in the 60s when oil was found, which propelled its growth. Nowadays, not so much dependant on oil, Abu Dhabi is an international link of passengers and goods, with a diverse economy of tourism, real estate and financial services, amongst others.
Abu Dhabi is a great place for travellers, residents and business. The city, well-known for its modern wonders and grandiosity, has so much to offer its visitors. From relaxing beautifully sandy beaches to extreme sports, there is a little bit of everything for everyone. Its most notable characteristics are perhaps its two most famous buildings: The luxurious Burj al Arab Hotel, and the Burj Khalifa Tower. The latter is not only an amazing example of modern architecture, but it is also the tallest skyscraper in the world at 828 meters of height. Most people will probably know the tower from the fourth instalment of the film series Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
The city of Abu Dhabi is also known as the business centre of the middle east, and that is thanks to the amazing business district. Besides all the shopping that can be carried out in there, there are many other surprising sights such as a wonderful artificial cascade, an amazing array of hotels, and its world-famous aquarium.
Of course, not everything in Abu Dhabi is modernism and Grand. To get in contact with some of the most traditional spaces of the city, one must not go further than the Jumeirah Mosque. Though quite new, it is one of the few mosques which allow non-Muslims visitors and let them connect with the Islamic religion. Travellers can also visit the neighbouring UAE places to get a taste of what the traditional middle east looked like.
Abu Dhabi is a place with amazing wonders. This city is just an endless source of entertainment for tourists from all around the world. And while it is probably one of the most expensive places in the world, its skyscraper-filled skyline is without a doubt, a sight worth seeing.
